Computation in Boolean Logic

The Search can be done by virtue of combining the input value of retrieval strings and the Boolean Logic Operators for Computation, AND, OR, and NOT. The Operators for Computation are as follows:

* Represents AND + Represents OR - Represents NOT, where " - " (NOT) cannot be used in the column alone and requires combination with another retrieval value"*" (AND).

Example 1: If you want to search materials with “Tulou” or “Hakka Building” at the same time, enter “Tulou + Hakka Building” in the Search box.

Example 2:If you want to search materials with “Festival” and “Yimin Festival”, entert “Festival * Yimin Festival” in the Search box.

Example 3:If you want to search materials with “Taiwan”, but without “Mainland China”, input “Taiwan *- Mainland China” in the Search box.

Exact Match Search

The word search against strings input by a user and the automatic execution of retrieving related reference words (synonyms) can be done in the chosen search field. For example, if you enter “aids” in the search, the system will also return results with all synonymous words, such as “AIDS”, and “Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome” along with the strings for “aids”.

Fuzzy Search

In the Exact Match search mode, the search is done by the proximity of strings; for example, an Exact Match search on “Automation of Library” will also return results for “Automation of Circulation in a library.” On the other hand, Fuzzy Search will enlarge the scope of retrieval by treating search value as similar words; therefore, every word in the retrieval value is not necessarily in proximity and in the same field simultaneously, which allows the search to retrieve every possibly related data through computation of proximity and weights. For example, in the Fuzzy Search, when the retrieval value is “Electronic Library”, data with “Electronic Library” or “Computerized Library” in the related fields will be searched and displayed. Therefore, the displayed data will be sequenced in order of relevance of computation.

Homophone Search

Besides an Exact Match search on the values input by users, all homophones and homographs will be searched and displayed at the same time. For example, a search value with the Traditional Chinese word “藥” will also return results with the Simplified Chinese word “葯 ” at the same time.
