Foreign LRT systems have developed well in recent years, and many systems have solved a lot of problems of urban transportation successfully. Now there are LRT drafts of plan studing in Taipei, Hsinchu, Tainan and Kaohsiung. However, the width of roads in Taiwan cities isn’t wide enough and exists complex characteristics of traffic. Such complex crossings of traffic modes and pedestrians will bring potential risks in traffic. So we can’t ignore the issues of safety if we use LRT in Taiwan.
Furthermore, what safe devices can solve problems of conflict with using LRT.? Are the safe devices suitable for use in Taiwan? How does LRT impact average travel time and average speed in the traffic links? These issues are worth researching. I use average travel time and average speed for traffic measure of efficiency to simulate and analyze the influence of using LRT in my research area, and apply PARAMICS to simulate the effect with regard to the traffic phenomenon of links.
