Through the analysis of conventional iconographic language of the tribe, this research addressed the relationship between compositional elements in Atayal village (Shan-bi village here) and iconography process in the light of cultural study. By looking at the employment of icons in physical and social environment, the properties of icons (e.g. forms, material, forming factors, denotation and connotation) were analyzed to understand the relationship between icon and environment
